Amazing story

The Second-Best Ranger in TexasAmazing story. great imagery from the first page that just kept on going until the end. My only complaint: it was too short. I didn’t want it to end that quickly. Great western historical romance.

A treasure of a tale

Peaches by Kathleen Rice Adams“Peaches” is not the first story set in 19th-century Texas, nor the first tale of a gruff, old rancher and a widowed schoolteacher. But then, this story is not told by an average author. It is a treasure set apart from the others by Kathleen Rice Adams, a gifted storyteller who uses her skill, experience, and patience to create characters so real that we swear we know them. With her attention to detail, Adams makes us live in the story as it happens, makes us care about the outcome, and plants the events in memory for a long time to come. What a pleasure to read a story so well-told.

Great action western romance

The Second-Best Ranger in TexasThis is an exciting, quick read. While it appears to be a romance from the cover, it’s really more of an action-packed western with some romance tossed in. And the writer makes certain to get the details right. I also especially liked the way she wrote Quinn Barclay’s horse, Bull-s-Eye. This story has it all… plenty of action, realistic characters you can care about, and a horse with personality.

Yee-haw! Hang onto your hat!

Prodigal GunThis is one of the best westerns I’ve read, and I’ve read more than my share. Ms. Adams picks you up and plops you down in the middle of the old west complete with lingo, trail dust, ornery cowboys, and of course, the hunky hero and beautiful heroine. Though this love story is intense and real, it doesn’t overshadow the western quality of the story. Men as well as women will enjoy it. The author paints the characters as vivid individuals—some you’ll want to smack, others you’ll want to shoot, and a few you’ll want to hug. The plot is thorough with lots of twists and turns. I highly recommend this story, it’s one you’ll not want to miss.

Two thumbs up for this exceptional debut novel

Prodigal GunProdigal Gun is more than a great love story. It’s also a thrilling Western written in the classic style. (I swear Zane Grey must be the author’s muse). Ms. Adams deft use of language paints pictures in the reader’s mind and brings her characters to life in all their flawed glory. The hero, Mason Caine (aka Calhoun) is an outlaw–quite literally–but he’s got enough humanity left to salvage, and Jessie, the spunky heroine, is up to the challenge. Sparks fly whenever the two of them are together. I found myself wanting to knock their hard heads together before they finally found their HEA. I loved the historical underpinning to the plot, which hinges on Mason’s involvement as a hired gun in a Texas range war. The love story between Mason and Jessie is the heartbeat of this book, but it’s part of a larger, fascinating story, complete with fully fleshed out secondary characters. Even if you don’t read Westerns, if you’ve ever thought about trying one, this may be just the book to convert you! I give Prodigal gun two thumbs up.

I loved this book and will be following this author

Prodigal GunMason and Jessie Caine have a lot to overcome before they can be together. Kathleen Rice Adams created one of the most well-written western historical romances I’ve ever read. There are twists and turns enough to keep any reader in suspense. I loved this book and will be following this author in the future. I am a devoted fan forever!

A heart-pounding story of love and redemption

Prodigal GunProdigal Gun is both an exciting, action-packed Western and a poignant, romantic tale of the power of love to heal the wounds of the past and bring hope to even the most scarred soul.

Kind as he was, the man Jessie Caine married years earlier was not the man who held her heart. Now a young widow with a headstrong teenaged daughter, Jessie finds herself confronting the pain and the loss of the past. The lover she’d thought dead for more than a decade has suddenly reappeared, critically wounded, in real danger of dying literally at her doorstep. She is, in more ways than one, the very last hope for Mason Caine, AKA notorious gunslinger Calhoun. And Mason’s troubled past will not easily release him.

Dramatic, heartfelt, passionate, and written with a truly authentic sense of time and place – post-Civil War Texas – as well as fully-fleshed, appealing characters, Kathleen Rice Adams’ pulse-pounding, gripping Western romance will grab readers on the very first page and keep them riveted until the last. A wonderful story!

A prodigal returns

Prodigal GunProdigal Gun is a wonderful love story, yes, but it’s also a gripping, vivid Western that would make any classic western author proud. The story grabs the reader from the very beginning, and doesn’t let go. Ms. Adams has a way with words and phrases that is unique and priceless, painting a picture in the mind of the reader, while allowing the readers to learn about Mason as she moves along with the action.

She has a gift for writing, and just as important, she knows Texas history and how to use it for worthwhile novels.

The female lead, Jessie, is perfect for Mason, both tough on the outside, but all woman on the inside. Jessie won me over right away. She doesn’t give up.

I admit Will broke my heart a little, for his unfulfilled life. However, he played a big part in the story that the reader will see unfold.

Mason has a rough veneer, a seemingly cold heart, but wait until you read the scenes between him and Jessie.

Wonderful western romance

If yoProdigal Gunu like western romance, you’ll love Prodigal Gun. I like strong women, and Jesse was the type woman we all aspire to be. And who can beat a cowboy like Mason? He is strong and determined, but has a soft side that can melt a woman’s heart. As a writer of western romance myself, I read a lot of them and often delete them afterward. Not this time. It’s a keeper that I’m sure I’ll go back and read again.

A satisfying western historical romance

Prodigal GunI liked this book a lot for the breath of Texas as well as the exciting story of star-crossed lovers. Having been a fan of westerns most of my life, there was a lot of the classic western in the story, but it never forgot it was also a love story. Mason and Jessie made good hero and heroine. She was a strong woman willing to do what she needed to fight for her man– or fight him when required. He was a love worth waiting a lifetime to get. Good read and I loved the feel of nature throughout it as well as the history of a time. (great cover too)

Jessie and a gunslinger named Calhoun

Prodigal GunThis isn’t a “cowboy” type, this is powerful romantic western with a lot of suspense, mystery and roller coaster rides. I loved it and it was very well written. I was laughing, crying, holding my breath and my heart and loved the twist and turns it had in it.

The details in it made it so real you could smell the lavender and hear the mockingbirds. You could also cringe at the fear that a few of the characters threw at you and also feel the love the emotion that others had to share.

This would make a beautiful exciting movie that would have you on the end of your seat with a box of tissues by your side.
Jessie is a strong beautiful woman that has held the love in her heart for a man that has been dead for 16 years, or has he? She is trying to hold a ranch together in a man’s world with a heart that aches from memories of a past love.

Calhoun, a gunslinger, with cold eyes and heart from the war and all the killing that happened. His heart isn’t dead though, he had left that with a woman years ago . Will it still be safe or is he to hard and cold to ever know the smell of lavender and the sound of mockingbirds again.

Will fate return their heart back to them or will they be gone forever in The Prodigal Gun?

Peaches for the holidays

Peaches by Kathleen Rice AdamsI really enjoyed this story. It was a fun quick read for the holidays. I wish it had been longer. The author did a great job of making the characters come alive off the pages. You could feel Whit’s anger and frustration and wondered why he got so angry at those Peach trees so much. You could also feel the warmth in his heart when the schoolmarm’s children came around though. Ruth had her hands full raising her three boys and this rough and tough cowboy coming into their lives trying to tell her what to do was not needed or wanted, or was it?

The events will make you laugh and cry and get you very hungry for what else? Peaches!

I have read books by a couple of these authors in the past, but now I have 2 new authors who sure know how to write! A lot of stories this length seem to be “rushed”. But not so with these ladies!
